All About the Fishing Dawg
There may be many fishing dogs, but there
is only one "fishingdawg". Her name is Beulah,
and she is the best fishing buddy a guy ever had!! She's
part bulldog, part mastiff. She is eleven years old and has
loved fishing since she first stepped into a boat. She
never complains, is always enthusiastic, and never tells
tall fishing tales. She fishes all day long as hard
as any human fisherman. She barks (or spins around,
or both) on the first cast of the day and the last cast. She
only rests between fishing spots. She watches the line
retrieval like a bird dog on a covey of quail. When
a fish comes in she'll take it away from you if she can -
she can lick the scales off of a trout in 10 seconds flat. She
also knows to stay away from a "bad fish" like
a stingray, catfish or a shark. She has taught
her sister, Bonzo, to love fishing almost as much as
she does.
Beulah watches the river behind her home
for schools of Jacks, and barks excitedly to summon a fisherman
when she spots one. If you do not respond timely, she
gives you a really disgusted look. She can tell the
difference between marauding Jacks and Garfish activity. |
Her
family and home on the river
Beulah lives with her family on the Withlacoochee
River in Inglis. She has one sister, Bonzo, who lives
with her "Aunt" Heather, an Equine Sports Massage
Therapist and recent graduate of the University of Georgia. Her
other "Aunts" are Cyndy,
a fabulous hairstylist in Orlando, Florida, and Melissa,
an Associate Professor who teaches at the University of Tampa. She has a "Mom", Kay. The
most important person in her life, however, is her "Man",
who is not only her best friend, but the one who taught her
how to fish. There is a new member of Beulah's family. His name is E. G. "Woody" Borden; he was born on July 31, 2006. Click here to see his picture.
Injury Report: After
having surgery on her ACL tendon two years ago, Beulah has
developed arthritis. She is taking supplements to help
the pain and to improve the joints. Even though
her fishing abilities are slowing and she can't fish an eight
hour day any more, her enthusiasm remains and she fishes
as hard as ever. To see some movies of the Fishingdawg and her sister Bonzo at work Click Here. |
